The highly popular movie franchise Drishyam is returning with its third installment, Drishyam 3. As per latest reports, Superstar Mohanlal, the astute Georgekutty of the Malayalam version, and award-winning director Jeethu Joseph are preparing to take Drishyam 3 as a bilingual release, hitting screens at the same time in both Malayalam and Hindi with the intention to cater to audiences across India.
No Remakes, No Ajay Devgn: A Game-Changing Decision
The refusal to remake, especially in Hindi, has triggered heated debate between fans and industry professionals. Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam movies, directed by Nishikant Kamat (part one) and Abhishek Pathak (part two), were blockbuster hits at the box office, with Drishyam 2 collecting almost ₹350 crore globally. Devgn’s performance as Vijay Salgaonkar, the Hindi equivalent of Georgekutty, was widely appreciated and cemented the franchise as a brand in Bollywood. Yet the Drishyam 3 team’s decision to go with Mohanlal and no remakes is an indicator of faith in the star from the original film’s pan-India popularity. In going with Mohanlal and skipping remakes, the Drishyam 3 team is charting new territory, guaranteeing the suspense of the thriller filters through to India’s masses in one unbroken story.
Some Hindi version fans were disappointed, observing that Devgn had established a strong brand in the north. Others were hailing the shift, highlighting Mohanlal’s unparalleled performance in the original movies.
A New Chapter for Indian Cinema
As the wait intensifies, Drishyam 3 assures to be a film experience that brings together viewers from Kerala to Kashmir. With Mohanlal’s dominating presence, Jeethu Joseph’s direction, and a tale that has already enamored millions, Drishyam 3 is set to redefine the potential of a pan-India film.
