Tamil superstar Suriya’s much-awaited 45th film has finally got its official title—Karuppu! The announcement was made on June 20, 2025, coinciding with the birthday of the film’s director, RJ Balaji. Fans are thrilled as the title and first-look poster hint at an exciting mass action entertainer with a spiritual touch.
What is Karuppu About?
Karuppu, which means “black” in Tamil, is named after a folk deity called Karuppusamy, also known as the Black God. The title poster shows Suriya’s silhouette holding a sword, standing in front of a large statue of the deity, suggesting a story rooted in rural traditions and divine elements. The film is described as an action-adventure with a unique concept, blended with RJ Balaji’s signature humor.
The makers, Dream Warrior Pictures, shared their excitement, saying, “Karuppu is a name that embodies the soul of our story, shaped by heart, spirit, and purpose.” This promises a film that is not just entertaining but also meaningful.
Star Cast and Crew
Suriya stars as the lead, reportedly playing a lawyer and a devotee of Ayyanar, another rural deity. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, reuniting with Suriya after 20 years since their 2005 film Aaru. The supporting cast includes talented actors like Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, and Natty Subramaniam.
Production and Release
Karuppu is produced by SR Prabu and SR Prakash Babu under Dream Warrior Pictures, the team behind Suriya’s earlier film NGK. The movie is in its final stages of shooting, with some patchwork left, and post-production is already underway. Filming has taken place in locations like Pollachi, Kodaikanal, and Ooty. The makers are aiming for a grand theatrical release in October 2025, possibly during a festival.
