Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu is making a thunderous return to theaters, and fans are showing massive love for the re-release. Advance bookings for Day 1 (February 20, 2026) have already sold 10,000 tickets across Tamil Nadu. The momentum is expected to surge further as more screens and shows will be added before Friday.
The film, originally released in January 2023 during the Pongal festival, is produced by Boney Kapoor under Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios. Directed by H. Vinoth, Thunivu features Ajith in the lead role alongside Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, and others in key supporting parts. The heist-action entertainer follows a gang of thieves executing a daring bank robbery, only to uncover larger criminal conspiracies and corruption.
This re-release coincides with a wave of nostalgia in Kollywood, as Thunivu shares the February 20 date with other major re-releases like Vijay’s iconic Ghilli and Vijay Sethupathi’s Soodhu Kavvum. The multi film clash is expected to create a festival like atmosphere in theaters, with fans celebrating their favorite stars through whistles, fireworks, and packed houses.
Film is just three years old and such enthusiastic pre-booking response is impressive and speaks volumes about Ajith’s strong fan base and enduring popularity.
