The 2023 Tamil heist action film Thunivu, starring Ajith Kumar in the lead, made a limited theatrical comeback in Tamil Nadu on February 20, 2026. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor, the film originally clashed with Varisu during Pongal 2023 and emerged as a solid commercial performer. Nearly three years later, its return to the big screen aimed to capitalize on Ajith’s massive fanbase and the film’s high-octane action sequences.
The re-release of Thunivu was limited to Tamil Nadu with around 230 screens. The opening day showed decent fan support, but numbers dropped over the weekend and stabilized at lower levels on weekdays. Despite the lower figures, Thunivu’s return highlights Ajith’s enduring pull among core audiences, even three years after its original release.
Thunivu has collected ₹0.91 crore gross in Tamil Nadu during its first week.
