Tamil cinema fans are in for a big treat as two major stars, Suriya and Dhanush, are reportedly planning to release their upcoming films on the same date – April 10th. If this plan becomes official, it could turn into one of the most exciting box office clashes of the year.
Karuppu directed by RJ Balaji marks Suriya’s 45th film in a lead role. The movie features Trisha Krishnan as the female lead. The title Karuppu itself suggests a mass oriented character with strong emotions and social themes. Early reports indicate that the film will have high action moments along with a deep storyline, which suits Suriya’s recent career choices.
On the other side, Kara is Dhanush’s upcoming film directed by Vignesh Raja (known for Por Thozhil). The film stars Mamitha Baiju opposite Dhanush. Kara is expected to showcase Dhanush in a fresh avatar, combining intense drama with strong performances. With Dhanush’s growing fan base across languages, the film is expected to perform well not just in Tamil Nadu but also in other regions.
April timing holds special significance in Tamil cinema, as the Tamil New Year weekend (around April 14) is one of the biggest festival periods, ideal for big star releases. By targeting April 10, the makers of Karuppu and Kara are looking to make the most of the festive and holiday season crowd. Trade analysts believe that the timing could work well, as audiences usually prefer big theatrical experiences during this period.
However, official confirmations are still awaited from the makers. Release plans in Kollywood often shift based on post production progress, competition and auspicious dates.
