The theatrical journey of Varavu has officially come to an end, with the film collecting ₹8.32 crore gross worldwide. Despite opening on a promising note and generating decent buzz during its initial days, the film failed to sustain momentum after its first weekend, resulting in a disappointing lifetime total at the box office.
According to the final box office figures, Varavu earned ₹6.17 crore gross in India, while the overseas contributed ₹2.15 crore. This took the film’s final worldwide gross to ₹8.32 crore.
Varavu Worldwide Box Office Collection (Final)
- Kerala: ₹5.90 Cr
- Karnataka: ₹17 lakh
- Tamil Nadu: ₹7.25 lakh
- Rest of India: ₹2.35 lakh
- Overseas: ₹2.15 Cr
Worldwide Gross: ₹8.32 Cr
The film performed overwhelmingly in its home state of Kerala, which accounted for nearly the entire domestic business. Kerala alone contributed ₹5.90 crore.
While the opening weekend showed encouraging signs, the film witnessed a sharp decline in collections from the first Monday onwards. Negative word of mouth and stiff competition at the box office significantly impacted its theatrical performance. As a result, the film struggled to attract audiences during the weekdays and couldn’t recover after the initial weekend.
Made on a reported budget of ₹10 crore, Varavu managed to recover only 39% of its production cost through theatrical revenue. This makes it a commercially unsuccessful venture in terms of box office returns, as the recovery remained well below the breakeven mark.
While the theatrical performance may not have met expectations, the film still has opportunities to recover additional revenue through satellite, digital streaming, and music rights.
