Ananthan Kaadu is a Malayalam-Tamil bilingual film directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar and written by Murali Gopy. It stars Arya in the lead role, along with Murali Gopy and other actors like Dev Mohan, Appani Sarath, Indrans, and more. It is a period drama set in late 1980s and early 1990s in Thiruvananthapuram (called Ananthan Kaadu in old times). The film shows how powerful people use ordinary men as tools for violence and dirty work.
Positives
The story feels real because it is inspired by actual events. The acting is the biggest strength. Arya plays his role with power and emotion. Murali Gopy, Indrans and the other supporting actors also give real and touching performances. They show the pain and struggle of their characters very well. The film feels big on screen with good technical work.
The music by Ajeesh Lokanath is good and fits the mood. The cinematography by S. Yuva captures the city and its hidden wild side nicely. Many scenes, especially the police brutality parts, feel realistic and impactful. The film has a clear message about power, politics, and how the system treats weak people.
Negatives
Even with good ideas, the story moves slowly in many places and feels too long. Some scenes look repeated and becomes heavy with too much violence. The characters are strong but not all are developed well. Some parts feel like they were added only for mass appeal and not for the story. New viewers may find it hard to connect fully with the political background without knowing the real events it is based on.
Final Verdict: 3/5
Ananthan Kaadu is a average political thriller with strong performances and good technical quality, but the slow narration hold it back. It is a good watch for fans of serious political thrillers.
