Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is gearing up for one of the most anticipated projects of his career, Battle of Galwan, a patriotic war drama inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is set to commence shooting in the first week of August 2025, with an expected theatrical release in January 2026. Fans are buzzing with excitement as the film promises to showcase Salman in a never-before-seen avatar, portraying Colonel B. Santosh Babu, the heroic officer who led the 16th Bihar Regiment during the intense border conflict.
A Glimpse into the Battle of Galwan
The film draws inspiration from the real-life events of June 15-16, 2020, when Indian and Chinese soldiers engaged in a brutal hand-to-hand confrontation in the Galwan Valley, a remote region in Ladakh situated over 15,000 feet above sea level. Notably, no firearms were used due to bilateral agreements, making it one of the deadliest border conflicts in over four decades, fought with sticks, stones, and sheer grit. The clash resulted in the tragic loss of 20 Indian soldiers, including Colonel Babu, and the film aims to honor their valor and sacrifice.
Salman Khan unveiled the motion poster for Battle of Galwan on July 4, 2025, which took the internet by storm, garnering over 50 lakh views in just two hours. The poster showcased Salman in a rugged, bloodied, and battle-worn look, gripping a barbed-wire-wrapped stick, with a fierce determination in his eyes. The tagline, “Blood, grit, and patriotism at 15,000 ft,” sets the tone for a powerful narrative that highlights the Indian Army’s indomitable spirit in extreme conditions.
Star Cast and Production
Battle of Galwan is backed by Salman Khan Films and features Chitrangda Singh in a key role, adding to the anticipation. While other cast details remain under wraps, the film is poised to be a massive production, blending emotion, action, and national pride. The project marks a significant shift for Salman, whose recent films like Sikandar (2025) underperformed at the box office. With Battle of Galwan, he aims to deliver a hard-hitting, patriotic drama that resonates with audiences.
Release Planned for January 2026
Unlike Salman’s usual Eid releases, Battle of Galwan is not expected to hit theaters during Eid 2026 due to other major films, like Toxic, Dhamaal 4, and Love & War, already booked for that slot. Instead, the makers are eyeing a January 2026 release, with some reports suggesting June 2026 as another possibility if post-production takes longer. There’s also talk of a potential Bakri Eid release in May 2026, but January remains the primary target. Salman himself confirmed the January 2026 release in a recent interview, saying, “Yes, January.”
Fans Await a Blockbuster
After the disappointing box office performance of Salman’s last film, Sikandar, fans are hopeful that Battle of Galwan will mark his grand comeback. With its powerful story, intense action, and Salman’s dedication to the role, the film is already generating a lot of buzz. As one fan wrote, “Salman is coming to conquer the box office!”
